Musical May 2022 - Day 7 - It Makes Me Ill

I could never get enough of *NSYNC as a kid, and while this was never one of my favorite songs, it's still a good one.

It really does give you a kind of sick feeling when you see your ex with somebody else...although you must also pity the new person, because in this song, the girl is just using him to make the first guy jealous: "I can tell that you don't really love that guy/But there's no need for you to go and waste your time."

To me, few things are more deplorable than somebody using somebody else for personal gain, for treating them like a toy, for making them "believe" that you care about them for real.

That's what my Tyrell is guilty of with his first girlfriend Candy, so it only makes perfect sense that they eventually break up for good, though they still maintain a decent friendship. Candace can't very well say she was an angel herself.

Thus completes Week 1 of 2022 Musical May!

Musical May 2022 - Day 6 - Short People

Possibly Randy Newman's most controversial song. It's not supposed to be taken seriously but a lot of people take it the wrong way anyway. In any case, I like it. It's catchy enough, and Randy Newman has always had an incredible sense of rhythm.

I still find it absurd that people sang his praises so much for his songs for the Pixar movies, but blasted him for composing the songs for The Princess and the Frog. Pretty hypocritical if you ask me, not to mention a case of pure sour grapes just because Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz weren't doing the honors this time. Again, I personally enjoy the soundtrack; my most favorite from that one has to be "Down in New Orleans."

Pixar-wise, it's a tie between "If I Didn't Have You" from Monsters, Inc. and "The Time of Your Life" from A Bug's Life

You may have noticed that many of my heroes are on the short side. Reid is a bit of a small fry himself (one of the many reasons he was bullied so much) but he's all heart and he's also made of solid iron; he can literally hit you where it hurts. Opal, Lara, and Kaylee are short, too, and my elf Aldridge, and Beowulf is possibly the smallest of all the werewolves.

In Beowulf's case, his small size serves him well and he becomes that much more intimidating; it's all the easier for him to hide (and take you by surprise) and all the harder for you to hide from him. The fact that he's so intelligent makes him all the more formidable.

Only his humanity (or what's left of it) keeps him in check, so you're all right as long as you don't give him a reason to come after you.

Musical May 2022 - Day 4 - Upside Down

I was positively obsessed with this song as a kid. My dad, who was very selective about the kind of music he listened to, liked A*TEENS very much and told me I had excellent taste. So, this song carries both fond childhood memories and comforting memories of Dad.

On a side note, happy "Star Wars Day" to those of you who commemorate it. "May the Fourth be with you" makes me think of Sylvester the Cat. Thweet thufferin' thuccotath...

Musical May 2022 - Day 3 - Uptown Girl

Billy Joel has a great many awesome songs, but I'd have to say this one is my all-time favorite.

Not only is it impossibly catchy, but it sends forth a nice message about how true love is no respecter of class. The rich don't always mingle with the rich, any more than the poor always mingle with the poor.

Sure, you need money to survive, but it'd be a pretty sad, lonely life without the warm affection. After all, as they say, there are some things no amount of money in the world can buy.

Musical May 2022 - Day 2 - We Built This City

Here's entry number two. Oh, boy, did my brother play this song to DEATH not so long ago. It's a great song by all means...if you don't have to listen to it ten thousand times.

Musical May 2022 - Day 1 - Sunglasses at Night

Remember that "Musical May" challenge I did last year? Well, as you can most likely guess, I'm doing it again this year. As always, I'm doing Sharpie art because it's the quickest and makes life the easiest, especially with all my other projects going on right now.

So, here's numero uno, a song that people either absolutely love or absolutely despise. Regardless, it was one of the songs of the 80s era.

It's pretty much the only song of Corey Hart's that instantly recognizable, but it's his little slice of immortality. Nobody will ever hear "sunglasses" the same way again. I sure won't.

Three Holidays in One

Happy Summer Solstice, Happy Birthday to my second nephew Spencer, and Happy Father's Day to Dad, Grandpa Dahl, and Grandpa Mather.
