My New Year's Theme

And so begins a brand-new year. I'm well aware that 2024 won't be perfect, but there's still something refreshing about a new chapter. You already know all is not going to be well in the book you're about to read or the movie you're about to watch, but you still look forward to the story.

What are my resolutions for this year?

Well, it's more like a New Year's Theme, actually. I got the idea from a news story years ago, where a woman used a specific word to revolve her whole year around, like "hope" and "dream" and "believe."

This year, my special word will be "Finish."

I've always been great at starting things. Getting those things done, not so much. And so I aim to see certain tasks all the way through in 2024, or at least make a better effort.

This includes the completion of:

1. The Book of Mormon

2. More books for personal reading (don't know how many, but there are some books I started to read for fun and then dropped)

3. The organization of my bedroom

4. More artwork

5. At least one short story and at least one novel

6. My driver's license

Good luck to the rest of you, and once again, Happy New Year!

The Word of 2022

So, here we are with a brand-new year. We get to start all over again.

Some people believe in certain New Year resolutions, like losing weight and eating healthier and reading more often. Me, I like to use a word to summarize my year and I try to live by that word.

This year, my word is achieve.

This year in particular, I resolve to achieve two things: my driver's license and at least one of my books. I've yet to acquire my driver's license (never passed that darn road test in high school and never really got the chance to practice much driving since) and my writing projects (though I honestly feel they're good, or they've at least got potential) are a huge mess.

So, with any luck, by this time in 2023, I'll be street legal and I'll have at least one story that you can read from start to finish, even if it's not officially published yet.

Let the good times roll, mates. Tally-ho!

The Word of 2021

My word of resolution for 2021: perseverance.

No matter what comes my way this year, I’m gonna tough it out.

I’m also persisting with my writing; let’s see if I can complete at least one manuscript.

Ready or not, mates, here it comes!

Goodbye, 2017! Hello, 2018!

Hard to believe we're ushering in a whole new year already. Seems like only yesterday that we were ushering in 2017. Time just has that uncanny way of speeding up as you get older, dunnit?

Well, 2017 was a good year for me, when all is said and done. I can think of more good things about this year than bad, and here's hoping 2018 will be the same way. No year is perfect, of course; my only hope is that the ups outnumber the downs.

Resolutions? You bet! I'm a believer in resolutions; there's always room for improvement.

Come 2018, I resolve to:

* Read more often (I have a TON of books sitting on my new bookshelf)

* Get a little more involved in music

* Look a little more vigorously for another job (but I will stay at WinCo until that actually happens)

* Move around more often, even if it's just taking a little evening walk

* Create more colored art

* Try to complete at least one manuscript; even if it's not published yet, by this time next year, I hope to have a coherent story that you can read from start to finish.

Nothing else to say for this blog, other than: tally-ho!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

A very happy birthday to my mom, Carolyn Dahl Mather. Hope you had a great day, Mom. We all love you and appreciate you more than words can ...
