Mel's Inktober 24 - Playful Pups

Nothing fancy about this one. Just a nice, simple, feel-good moment of two adorable dogs having some autumn fun together.

2023 Inktober 1 - Doughnuts and Cider

Hello, friends and fellow artists! It's that time of the year once again, and here's the picture to kick it all off.

Just about everybody automatically thinks of pumpkins or apples in the fall. I lean toward apples myself. While I like pumpkin fragrances, I never really acquired a taste for pumpkin, although pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are quite nice. My mom loves roasted pumpkin seeds, so I tell her she can have my share. I tried pumpkin pie a few times, but never learned to love it.

So, again, I'm a lot more partial to apples. When I was little, the apple was my most favorite fruit and I ate one whenever I could. Today, I still love them and I especially love candy apples and apple juice. Strawberries may be Terence and Reid's favorite fruit, but they'll eat as many apples as possible, too.

(Images property of their respective owners.)

I could really go for a nice mug of hot cider and a nice doughnut to go with it. However, doughnuts fill me up pretty quick, so one doughnut at a time is enough for me, two tops.

Maybe I should pick up some apple juice after next payday.

New Month, New Start

Not much to say on this blog, other than goodbye to August and summer, and hello to September and autumn.

I don't dislike summer, but I'm more than ready for this particular summer to be over. I need a fresh start. I know September won't be perfect but there's just something reassuring about the beginning of a brand-new month and season, you know?

See you in September, mates.

Inktober 2018 - Day 2

Round 2! Six drawings already...and that's not counting all the illustrations I've done for my stories. I amaze myself sometimes.

At any rate, this gives me something to do and (sort of) distracts me from my current woes. Work's no better, though I have been putting out some applications here and there. Guess only time will tell.

Inktober entry 2: Tranquil. How nice it is to lie on a thick bed of grass, in the shelter of a tall tree, with the softest breeze blowing against you. Just that description alone relaxes me.

Disney Inktober entry 2: Favorite Song. Not a difficult choice at all!

And Fantasytober entry 2: Faun. A little trickier to do than I thought, but I think it turned out okay. And earlier, I watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown with the family; it ain't Halloween (or Christmas) until I've seen the Peanuts special at least once, and this was the second viewing!

Inktober 2018 - Day 1

And the second year has begun! The wheels in my head were already spinning before I got out the paper and broke open my new case of Sharpies.

For the first official "Inktober" entry: Poisonous. Want a bite?

For the first Disney entry: Candle. Naturally, I thought of our most favorite musical candelabra...and our only one, as far as I can tell. I kind of prefer the 1991 Lumiere to the 2017 Lumiere, and I must confess, he was harder to draw than I thought. Had to do a quick side sketch to get it (mostly) right.

And finally, for my own "Fantasytober" entry: Unicorn. Isn't that a cutie? And I had to draw this four times before I was satisfied.

"Inktober" Challenge - Day 13

Looks like I spoke too soon about a nice long break from work. One of my coworkers (with whom I worked just these last two nights) has, for some enigmatical reason, quit cold turkey, so they needed me to come in this evening for a few hours. At least there were two other people helping me out, so the job got done a lot quicker. We even clocked out two minutes early.

And then I have to work at least five more night shifts the following week, including my mom's birthday on Sunday. Delightful. Simply delightful.

Well, I still managed to squeeze in some time for "Inktober," even if I had to wait until after work to post the pictures.

Theme number 13: "Teeming."

Yep, that's Terence and Rhiella once again. They would really get off on this kind of sport if they were living in our world. And I kept the fish nice and simple because to draw that many fish in fine detail in such a limited time frame would have been a nightmare.

Disney theme number 13: "Fall Leaves."

I had a fairly good idea of how I wanted this to look. Just took Bambi's iconic butterfly scene and replaced the butterfly with some multicolored leaves dancing in the wind. I well imagine Bambi would have had the same reaction.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

A very happy birthday to my mom, Carolyn Dahl Mather. Hope you had a great day, Mom. We all love you and appreciate you more than words can ...
