Musical May 2022 - Day 21 - Genie in a Bottle

When I was a kid, I had a cassette tape of Christina Aguilera that I played quite often, and I owned this really cool pink C-Watch where it played tiny animated snippets of "Genie in a Bottle."

My sister had a blue C-Watch that played *NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" and I'd always wished that one was mine instead. Oh, well, you took what you could get.

Musical May 2022 - Day 17 - Shape of My Heart

As much as I love *NSYNC, I've always liked the Backstreet Boys, too, and I really don't think I could choose between them.

This song is one of my favorites; I think it's very applicable to many of my characters. I'm sure you know which characters I'm talking about.

Musical May 2022 - Day 16 - Bye, Bye, Bye

Another well-known song by one of my most favorite groups.

Man, if I had a dollar for every time I listened to this song since it first came out, I'd be a bajillionaire.

Musical May 2022 - Day 7 - It Makes Me Ill

I could never get enough of *NSYNC as a kid, and while this was never one of my favorite songs, it's still a good one.

It really does give you a kind of sick feeling when you see your ex with somebody else...although you must also pity the new person, because in this song, the girl is just using him to make the first guy jealous: "I can tell that you don't really love that guy/But there's no need for you to go and waste your time."

To me, few things are more deplorable than somebody using somebody else for personal gain, for treating them like a toy, for making them "believe" that you care about them for real.

That's what my Tyrell is guilty of with his first girlfriend Candy, so it only makes perfect sense that they eventually break up for good, though they still maintain a decent friendship. Candace can't very well say she was an angel herself.

Thus completes Week 1 of 2022 Musical May!

Musical May - Day 18 - Tearin' Up My Heart

I had to do at least one *NSYNC song, and when I first heard this song in my youth, I really did visualize a guy on his knees with his heart in his hands, ripping the whole thing up like tissue paper. This was the least graphic way I could portray it. #Day18 of #MusicalMay.

The Healing Power of Gratitude - Day 4

Today, I #GiveThanks for good music. It's amazing what music can do for you, especially when you're going through a terrible funk. When I lost my dad, a lot of songs helped me, but "Consider the Lilies" by the Tabernacle Choir struck a particular nerve in a very good way.

And then you get nice, uplifting music from artists like Josh Groban, Enya, Celine Dion, Susan Boyle, David Archuleta, *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Phil Collins, Bruno Mars...the list goes on and on. There's some awesome movie soundtracks and Broadway soundtracks, too.

Of course, I can't fail to mention Christmas music. While I can only tolerate so many versions of "Winter Wonderland" and "Sleigh Ride" and "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," I never fail to be moved by holiday tunes like Josh Groban's "Believe," Dean Martin's "Marshmallow World," Newsong's "Christmas Shoes," Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You," Burl Ives's "Silver and Gold," and *NSYNC's "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays."

Music's a miracle, that's what it is.

Happy Birthday, Chris Kirkpatrick!

Just had to take a moment to wish Chris Kirkpatrick a very happy birthday! I totally idolized him in the good old *NSYNC days, and I still totally idolize him today.

For the record, here are all the other pictures I put together for him these last few years. Yeah, some look better than others, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Happy Birthday, Mom!

A very happy birthday to my mom, Carolyn Dahl Mather. Hope you had a great day, Mom. We all love you and appreciate you more than words can ...
