Well, it's a done deal! Pippin, also known as Lily, has been officially welcomed into the Mather household!
It's a rather surreal feeling, and the poor thing's understandably skittish and standoffish. She'll let you pet her for a minute, then she'll abruptly turn around and hiss at you or bat you with her paws, even though she's declawed. Turns out she's had a pretty rough week altogether. We're going easy on her, and with time, a little love, and a little luck, she'll come around.
She used to belong to Scott Purcell's sister, who recently passed away. Scott and Susan are the ones who call her Lily, and they would gladly keep her themselves if not for their other two cats, who still have all their claws.
So, they thought of us and asked us if we wanted her.
They were a bit emotional when they left, especially Susan. We told them they can come visit whenever they like, and I said they can still call her Lily. I had several nicknames for Butterscotch, after all: Butterball, Puddy-Tat, Buddy-Boy, and even Butter-Butt.
While it will take some getting used to, I am quite happy to have a cat under my roof again. Since they already took the liberty of taking Pip to the vet, it turns out she's five years old and in great health, so here's hoping she sticks around for a good while!
About time something good came out of the year 2020.
