Inktober 2018 - Day 13

Geez, what a day. I got called in today for an extra five-hour shift; for obvious reasons, I said yes. But personally, I don't think it's a good idea to have just two or three people working in the deli on a Saturday. Everybody knows what happens in a store on Saturdays.

I was run ragged all day; I never even got to take a ten-minute break. I tried to do my assigned tasks, but customers kept interrupting me (not their fault), and almost everybody had a tall order (again, not their fault). Then there were the sweep logs and temperature logs and hot soup logs, and I'm pretty much the only person who remembers to do them. We risk big trouble when we don't do them, and not just from our boss.

It took me a long time to finish my tasks. Once I said, sardonically, "At this rate, by the time I finally get this done, it'll be time for me to go home."

Turns out I was right.

Even when I got my work done at last, my boss still chided me a little for taking so long. He acknowledged that I was busy but he thinks I can (and should) go faster. I don't mean to be slow, since I want to make sure my job's done right the first time, and besides, there is such a thing as working too fast and I'm naturally cautious. I respect the boss but sometimes I wish he would cut me a bit of slack.

I'm not looking forward too much to tomorrow. Besides working on Sunday and missing church (again), opening the deli with my boss by my side isn't going to be a picnic. Guess I'll just have to swallow my pride and suck it up. This is my job, they're paying me to do this, I'm at that point in my life where I can't afford to be picky about my source of income, and somebody's got to do it. While I understand the viewpoint of my superiors, it still stinks when you do your best and your best isn't quite good enough for them. Morale takes a blow that way, you know.

Maybe that's why I go out of my way to be kind and appreciative toward other workers besides my own. When I eat out, I make a conscious effort to thank the people at the restaurant, and I sincerely compliment the janitors, too.

One nice thing about "Inktober": I don't have to worry about meeting anybody's standards. It's not a competition. There's no right or wrong way to draw a prompt. It's pure, simple fun. You draw anything that strikes your fancy, and you get to be the judge of how good enough it is.

Thus, we have our segue into the drawings for day 13.

For the official "Inktober" challenge: Guarded. These are members of the royal guard under Tallis and Romulus; I don't have a name for either character yet.

For the Disney twist: Fix-It Felix. I wonder how many people will draw this extremely famous scene for this prompt.

And for lucky Fantasytober 13: Ghost. Very simple, rather silly, but I like it!
